Premier Hair RestorationHair loss, or alopecia, has many causes, including aging, genetics, medications, stress and local or systemic diseases. Or it may be the result of an injury or accident. Whatever its cause, there are measures you can take to counter your hair loss. Premier Hair Restoration, a division of Plastic Surgery Associates, offers two solutions to balding, medical treatment and/or surgical intervention. Medical treatment for hair lossWe offer two types of medical treatment for hair loss: Rogaine and Propecia. Both are non-permanent treatments that have been helpful for certain individuals but do not work for everyone. If you are a younger man or woman who has been losing your hair for a fairly short time, clinical studies show that you are more likely to respond positively to Rogaine or Propecia. Regardless of the form of medical treatment, you must be prepared to try the product for a minimum of 6 to 12 months before drawing any conclusions about its effectiveness. Surgical intervention for hair lossAt this time, the best way to restore and grow hair in balding areas on your scalp is by surgery. This surgical intervention, a hair transplant, is a more permanent solution than medical treatments. What does hair transplantation involve?Hair transplants, or hair grafts, are the only way to restore and grow hair permanently in your balding areas. Your surgeon will delicately remove grafts of hair from the healthy regions of your scalp and transplant them into the balding region. There are a variety of graft sizes and shapes, but micrografts usually create the most natural-looking hairline. This procedure involves moving a graft of single hair follicles from the healthy to the balding area of your scalp. With micrografts, there is little or no scarring, your scalp appears healthy and natural, and your hairline is natural in appearance and easy to style. New hair grows in after several months, usually at a rate of about a quarter-inch to a half-inch per month. Keep in mind, though, that while hair restoration surgery will achieve a natural look, it will not replicate the full head of hair you had when you were younger. |
