Correcting Breast AsymmetryIt is very common for patients to have breasts that are asymmetric, or different sizes. Many women find that one breast hangs lower or is smaller than the other. Some patients have large differences in the size and shape of their breasts, often with different cup sizes. Most cases of breast asymmetry are congenital, from birth, and become more pronounced as females enter puberty and adulthood. Surgery usually involves operating on both breasts by placing an implant or tissue expander in the smaller breast and reducing or lifting the larger breast. Patients usually go home the same day of surgery and recovery is similar to a breast augmentation. Heavy lifting and exercising is limited until at least 3-4 weeks after surgery, but most patients return to basic activities within a few days. |
